Mentoring helps people dream bigger and reach higher. As a Social Mobility Foundation mentor, you'll help talented young people shine in education and work.
Your mentee will be part of our life-changing Aspiring Professionals Programme. With our support, you'll help young people gain the skills, knowledge and networks to reach their full potential.
Our students are either eligible for free school meals, the first in their family to attend university or both.
We match you to a mentee who wants to work in your sector. You'll mainly chat over our secure e-mentoring platform, with opportunities to meet at monthly events.
Your mentee will ask questions like ‘which university courses should I consider to get a job like yours?’ or ‘what resources will help me learn about my career?’ Our dedicated team is here to help when you don't have the answers yourself.
From university choices to career options, big decisions are on the horizon for these young people.
You'll help them navigate this important stage of life and provide the foundations for success in education and work.
“Every time I reached a milestone, I really enjoyed sharing it with my mentors. They provided me with a variety of interview tips, which ended up being extremely useful and helped me to secure a place on the apprenticeship programme that I wanted.”

When it comes to joining the UK's most competitive professions, graduating is a milestone and not the destination.
Mentor an undergraduate to help them navigate the world of CVs, covering letters, graduate schemes, first job interviews and life after university.
“Having one-to-one support from a mentor helped me to develop both from an educational perspective and as an individual. My mentor helped me with revision techniques and work experience. I would recommend it to any student.”

“
Zahraa and I discussed various career and university options. I used my experience to (hopefully!) provide useful guidance. I found the mentorship very rewarding and look forward to many more years volunteering with the fantastic SMF!

“
Tom's guidance has been invaluable. He offered advice from an experienced position, which I would not have had access to elsewhere. He pushed me to take on more ambitious opportunities. I would love to become a mentor in the future.
