World Book Day 2025

Hear from students on our Programme about the books they've been loving.

My book choice is Enola Holmes The Case Of The Missing Marquess, by Nancy Springer . This book explores feminism and the theme of independence. The main character, Enola, sets out on a mission to find her mother after she disappears, whilst her brother, Mycroft, tries to send her to boarding school to become a 'proper lady'. During her mission Enola finds herself tangled into another adventure, a much more dangerous one.

My book choice is Face, by Benjamin Zephaniah. Zephaniah takes us on a journey as we see Martin suffer a downfall from his position of universal happiness. But it is at his lowest when he finds the real meaning of strength and friendship as he learns to cope with the injuries he has suffered. Martin overcomes the challenge of his injuries to become a very relatable character to me and readers.

My book choice is Shatter Me ,by Tahereh Mafi. My favourite thing about Shatter Me is the characters which make the story emotional and empowering. Shatter Me follows Juliette who faces many barriers both external and internal. Her journey to self acceptance gives Juliette the power to build relationships and overcome the external struggles she faces in the dystopian world.

My book choice is Normal People, by Sally Rooney. Normal People is a book about how love sometimes isn’t enough to overcome the barriers we put up, yet it can provide relief and comfort in times of great distress. Marianne and Connell suffer from a variety of mental health disorders; yet they can power through these with the help of one another. I have always been able to read this book whenever I feel down - I recommend it to any young people who are finding it hard to love themselves!
